Cyber ranges and capture the flag tournaments or CTF learning activities and exercises effectively demonstrate competency in the information security field. They provide a hands-on, interactive learning experience that can be used to improve skills related to certification renewal.

Requirements for CEC Approval:

  • Certification of Competition or Participation Voucher for each Room/Box, Cyber Range, Capture the Flag event, or instance you participated in.
  • For every submission, accompanied blog posts, write-ups, or videos will provide a high-level overview or process you used to complete each event/instance.

CEC Acquirement & Earning:

  • Each activity will qualify for Continuing Education Credit or CEC.
  • You can earn up to 15 Continuing Education Credits(CEC) by completing and participating in qualifying Cyber Ranges & Capture the Flag Competitions.

Community Engagement

Our community is the most valuable facet of our organization. We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for the ongoing support we have had from our community. We encourage all IT professionals to engage and participate within your communities.

Qualifying Community Engagement:

  • Participating in or Organizing online & local industry meetups and gatherings.
  • Participating and generally being a decent human being as a member of industry-recognized community Discord servers, Facebook Groups, Sub-Reddit Communities, Forums, and other social engagements.
  • Mentoring and providing community guidance to future IT professionals.
  • Participation as a Subject Matter Expert in live or pre-recorded training webinars or other educational functions.
  • Teaching(professional), On-Going Live Training/Webinars/Streams, Online Course Creation/Development, Video Series(playlists)

Requirements for CEC Approval:

  • Proof of participation(written with signed approval, on-site photos, write-ups)
  • Event Badges, Participation, Receipts, etc…
  • Community References with examples
  • Mentoring requires a description of content covered, dates and total time mentored, and signed documentation from the mentee approving supporting documentation.
  • To meet the teaching requirements, you will need to provide proof of employment(if you were employed as a teacher during your certification renewal window), lesson plans or syllabus with a description of the content covered within, and dates the training/courses occurred.

CEC Acquirement & Earning:

  • Each activity will qualify for 2 Continuing Education Credit or CEC.
  • You can earn up to 20 Continuing Education Credits(CEC) through participating and contributing to the community.

Published Content

Publishing content comes in many different forms, and at TCM Security, we recognize that you have many options available to help publish your works. You can find acceptable forms of published content below.

Qualifying Content:

  • Industry Articles and/or White Papers published by third parties.
  • Blog Posts featuring a high-level overview or knowledge in advanced topics related to your TCM Security Certification(s) Path and/or Professional Experience. 
  • Published Video Content(YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo, etc.) demonstrates total competency and in-depth knowledge of advanced topics related to your TCM Security Certification(s) Path and/or Professional Experience.  For instance: Demonstrate advanced pivoting techniques or tools not learned during your PNPT training or from what you learned during your real-world professional experience.
  • Published books related to your TCM Security Certification(s) Path or overall cybersecurity awareness and education will be accepted.

Requirements for CEC Approval:

  • Provide a brief description or outline for each type of content you submit for approval.
  • URLs and Copies of published work with your name and date(s) published.
  • Industry Articles and White Papers must be at least four(4) pages long.
  • Blog Posts must be at least 500 words long.
  • Books must have at least 15 pages of text.
  • Published work(s) that you submit to TCM Security for approval must be completed within the three-year window your certification is active.

CEC Acquirement & Earning:

  • Each of your published work(s) will qualify for 2 Continuing Education Credit or CEC.
  • You can earn up to 20 Continuing Education Credits(CEC) from submitting your published work.

Continued Learning

We love seeing you continue to take your learning journey to new levels. You can find all of our approved learning resources and information below.

Qualifying Learning:

  • Attend a cybersecurity-related Live Webinar or Training
  • Attend cybersecurity-related Conference Training or Workshops
  • Complete an online cybersecurity-related Training Course
  • Participate in and complete cybersecurity-related online/in-person training classes or boot camps
  • Complete a cybersecurity-related College Course or Degree
  • Complete a cybersecurity-related American Council on Education Course
  • Complete cybersecurity-related DOD or Military Training

Requirements for CEC Approval:

  • Proof of participation(on-site photos, write-ups, badges, receipts, signed documentation, email verification, certifications of completion, etc.)
  • Supporting verification from online training resources(Certifications of completion from Udemy courses or ITProTV courses)
  • Provide Signed documentation showing completion of a boot camp or in-person training classes.
  • All letters of completion, signed documents, diplomas, and other supporting documentation must include:
    • Your Name
    • Name of the Organization/Facility/or School.
    • Name of the Course/Subject of Study/Diploma/etc
    • Date of Course/Training Completion and/or Semester Completion
    • The number of hours and/or credit hours.

CEC Acquirement & Earning:

  • Each activity will qualify for Continuing Education Credit or CEC based on the length of the activity attended.  For instance: a cybersecurty-related Udemy course of 10 lecture hours would qualify for 10 CECs.
  • You can earn up to 30 Continuing Education Credits(CEC) by completing and participating in qualifying learning activities.

Industry Certifications

We also recognize other industry certifications, which can earn CECs once you achieve your TCM Security Certification(s). TCM Security will accept the specific certifications below. If you DO NOT see a certification listed, please contact us to see if we will honor that certification as an acceptable form of receiving continuing education credits.

Qualifying Content:

  • Any intermediate or advanced certification from ISC2
  • Any 500-level or greater certification from GIAC
  • Any advanced or expert level certification from EC-Council
  • INE certifications (eCPPT, eWPT, eCPTXv2, eWPTXv2)
  • Offensive Security certifications (OSCP, OSEP, OSWE, OSED, OSMR, OSEE)
  • Pentester Academy certifications (CRTP, CRTE)
  • Zero Point Security certifications (CRTO)
  • Other certifications (must be equal to, or more advanced than, the difficulty of the PNPT)

Requirements for CEC Approval:

  • Qualifying certifications must be achieved during the three-year window your TCM Security Certification is Active.
  • Copies of each certification will be required with each submission. Include links to online certification viewers in addition to your printable documents.
  • All certifications must include Your Name, the Name of the Organization Issuing the Certification, and the Date the Certification was earned.

CEC Acquirement & Earning:

  • Each certification received will qualify for 40 Continuing Education Credits or CECs.
  • You can earn up to 40 Continuing Education Credits(CEC) by achieving other industry-recognized certifications.

Renewal information

We have several activities and programs that can help you earn the CECs you need to stay certified. Not only does your participation help you meet the criteria to renew your certifications, but you’ll also be taking advantage of free learning opportunities that help you stay ahead of the curve and contribute to a safer community.
 
You can submit and assign CECs for certification renewal by emailing proof to certifications@tcm-sec.com.  Coming soon, you will be able to submit your CECs directly through your TCM Account Dashboard.

FAQ

Reputable accreditation boards require that the certifications they recognize have an expiration and a renewal process via Continuing Education Credits.
 
As we work towards becoming accredited and accessible to more individuals, such as service members using GI Bills and Credentialing Assistance, TCM Security recognized a change would be required to assist more people further and change their lives.

Your certification will be valid for 3 years from the date of your achievement.

 

For example: If you achieve your PNPT Certification on October 31st, 2022, your certification would not expire until October 31st, 2025.

Certifications are currently renewed through a Continuing Education process.  During this process you will achieve Continuing Education Credits(CECs) through completing different objectives, tasks, community involvement, continued training, and more.

You can submit and assign CECs for certification renewal by emailing proof to certifications@tcm-sec.com.  Coming soon, you will be able to submit your CECs directly through your TCM Account Dashboard.

TCM Security does not charge a renewal fee for your certifications.  

To renew your TCM Security certification you only need to complete your Continuing Education Credits(CECs) before the expiration date of your certification.
